HC Deb 22 May 1950 vol 475 c1632
22. Mrs. Mann

asked the Minister of Food how often the housewife can change her butcher; and what procedure is involved.

Mr. F. Willey

Unless there is a special cause such as removal to a new area, once in eight weeks. The housewife gets fresh counterfoils from her Local Food Office and takes them to her new butcher. These arrangements were suspended during the eight weeks before 21st May to reduce pressure on food offices while the new ration books were issued, but this suspension was only temporary.

Mrs. Mann

Can my hon. Friend now assure us that the housewife can change her butcher if he happens to be a butcher who refuses to exhibit price tickets on the meat which he is selling.

Mr. Hastings

Can butchers change their customers, also?

Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

And their meat?
