HC Deb 22 May 1950 vol 475 cc1653-4
76. Mr. Martin Lindsay

asked the Minister of Supply how many key-drive adding and calculating machines have been imported from the United States of America in each year from 1946; and whether, in order to save dollars, he will progressively reduce these imports, in view of the fact that a British firm, whose name has been sent to him, can supply the whole of the home market.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Figures of imports of these machines from the United States are not separately recorded in the trade returns. No complete key-drive adding or calculating machines are being imported from the United States, but parts for the assembly of electric key-drive machines in this country are being imported, since only hand-operated machines are at present being manufactured here. The import of these parts is being gradually reduced.
