HC Deb 16 May 1950 vol 475 c995
37. Captain John Crowder

asked the Minister of National Insurance if she will take steps to prevent the delay that is taking place at the present time in the payment of sickness benefit.

Dr. Summerskill

I have no evidence that any general delay is taking place in the payment of sickness benefit, but if the hon. Member has any case in mind and cares to let me have details I shall be pleased to have it looked into.

Captain Crowder

Would the Minister look into a case I will send her of a constituent of mine who sent in his medical certificate and claim for sickness benefit to the local insurance office on 20th March and still cannot get payment? Will she note that prompt payment was always made when he belonged to one of the societies before the present scheme came into operation?

Dr. Summerskill

Yes, certainly.
