HC Deb 11 May 1950 vol 475 c573
59. Mr. Emrys Roberts

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the amount of the salary paid to the chairman and each member of the Welsh Agriculture Land Sub-Commission; how many individuals are employed as general staff and what are their total annual salaries; and how many individuals are employed as resident estate staff and what are their total annual salaries.

Mr. T. Williams

An annual salary of £1,000 is paid to the Chairman of the Welsh Agricultural Land Sub-Commission and £500 to each of the three members; general staff, including the Land Agent to the Sub-Commission, number eight and their total annual salaries amount to £4,322 12s.; the resident estate staff, including workmen, number seven, and their total annual salaries amount to £2,296 11s. 4d.

Mr. Roberts

Does the Minister consider that the rents of the land held by this Commission, notably the Glanllyn Estate rents, will warrant the continuance of these payments?

Mr. Williams

No, Sir, but the work on the whole of the estates scattered all over the country will, of course, justify these payments.
