HC Deb 11 May 1950 vol 475 c559
11. Mr. Baird

asked the Minister of Health what organisations are consulted about, or asked to nominate suitable persons to serve on hospital management Committees under the Birmingham Regional Hospital Board

Mr. Bevan

I have written to my hon. Friend about this.

Mr. Baird

Does my right hon. Friend appreciate that there is only one trade union representative on the Wolverhampton Hospital Management Committee, although Wolverhampton is a large industrial area? Does he think that that is fair representation?

Mr. Bevan

It is wrong to talk about "representatives" on a management committee. We think that the Committee represents a wide range of interests.

Mr. Baird

Does my right hon. Friend consider that one working man on that Committee is representative?

Mr. Bevan

I do not believe in the use of the term "one working man."
