HC Deb 11 May 1950 vol 475 cc577-8
70. Mr. Wyatt

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury when the Director of the British Museum proposes to reply to the letter written to him on 31st October, 1949, by the Society of Authors.

Mr. Jay

This letter has now been answered.

Mr. Wyatt

Will my hon. Friend impress upon the Trustees of the British Museum that having, in this letter, now agreed to remove the restriction from the Swinburne document, it is now incumbent upon them to make a public statement admitting their mistake in placing any restriction on the document in the first instance?

Mr. Jay

I understand that the Trustees of the Museum always pay great attention to the remarks of my hon. Friend in this House.
