HC Deb 10 May 1950 vol 475 cc360-1
11. Sir Waldron Smithers

asked the Postmaster-General how many times have the powers to refrain from broadcasting any matter been exercised since the licence and agreement between his Department and the British Broadcasting Corporation dated 29th November 1946

Mr. Ness Edwards

None, Sir.

Sir W. Smithers

In view of the increasing Communist tendency of the B.B.C., will the right hon. Gentleman in future have a close watch kept on the broadcasts from a security point of view, and use his powers fairly?

Mr. Ness Edwards

I do not propose to exercise any political discrimination.

Mr. Blackburn

While not accepting the statement of the hon. Member opposite, may I ask my right hon. Friend to consider the case of the third programme, in which "Soviet Point of View" causes a great deal of offence.
