HC Deb 10 May 1950 vol 475 cc378-9
52. Mrs. Castle

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the shortage of vegetables, he will remove the limitation on the quantity of cauliflowers which may at present be imported.

Mr. F. Willey

It is unlikely that the import quota will be fully used. Supplies received so far are well below it, but if it threatens to become restrictive we shall certainly review it.

Mrs. Castle

Will my hon. Friend undertake to watch the position to see that import restrictions do not prevent British housewives from getting much needed vegetables at a time when home producers cannot meet the supply?

Mr. Willey

I have already indicated that if this threatens to be restrictive we shall review it.
