HC Deb 10 May 1950 vol 475 cc361-2
12. Mr. Bishop

asked the Postmaster-General how many would-be subscribers are waiting for telephones on the Byron exchange; what is the average waiting period; and what steps can he take to improve the position.

Mr. Ness Edwards

The number is 2,631. Of these, 519 applied during the past year, 614 and 450 in the two previous years, and 961 before 1947. Exchange equipment and cables will be provided during the next year to enable about 2,000 of the applicants to be given service.
