§ Mr. ManuelIs my right hon. Friend aware that recently we have had a case of an Ayrshire local authority paying compensation at the rate of £600 a year to an official who was in court against that local authority?
Mr. McNeilI see the point that my hon. Friend makes, but I think it would be unfair that, because a man is paid compensation for loss of office, he should be prohibited from following his normal employment elsewhere.
