§ 24. Mr. Alportasked the Minister of Works if he is aware that the continuing shortage of cement in North-East Essex is causing concern; and what action he intends to take to improve supplies
§ Mr. StokesSupplies of cement to this area are higher than ever before. If, however, the hon. Member is aware of any important work being held up by a shortage, perhaps he will let me have particulars.
§ Mr. AlportIs the Minister aware that it is generally known that throughout North-East Essex there is a serious shortage of cement and that this is 1393 attributed to the continued high level of the export of cement and the failure of the Government to make up stocks after their extensive use during the last few months?
§ Mr. StokesI must point out to the hon. Gentleman that cement has not been nationalised. The position is that there has been a record distribution during the last week or so. [Laughter.] Well, there is such a thing as coming events casting their shadows. I do not think there is anything to worry about.
