§ 58. Mr. Alportasked the Minister of Defence whether he will take steps to ensure that before a National Service man is enlisted on a Regular engagement his parents or guardians are informed of his intention.
§ Mr. ShinwellNo, Sir. Intending recruits, whether National Service men or others, have their responsibilities and conditions of service fully explained to them before being attested or engaged. If they are in any doubt as to undertaking a Regular engagement, they are at liberty to consult their parents or guardians.
