§ 36. Mr. Hastingsasked the Minister of Labour how many Remploy factories are now in production and to what extent they are working to capacity.
§ Mr. IsaacsAt 22nd March, 1950, Remploy Ltd., had 66 factories in production and were employing 4,211 disabled persons (4,101 men and 110 women) in their factories in addition to 222 home workers Some of the factory workers are still in training. Not all the factories are at present working to full capacity. In many cases they are still building up their labour force and trade connections. I am glad to say, however, that the volume of work being received from Government Departments, local authorities and commercial concerns is slowly increasing, and energetic efforts are being made to secure a greater flow of orders.
§ Mr. HastingsIs my right hon. Friend satisfied that the progress being made in these factories is such as might be expected at the present time?
§ Mr. IsaacsYes, Sir. In the present circumstances we must be satisfied with the progress made. I may say that in addition to the 66 factories already occupied another six are completed and will be occupied very shortly, bringing our total disabled persons employed up to 6,584.
§ Mr. RankinIs the Remploy factory in Glasgow now in production?
§ Mr. IsaacsI could not say without notice.
