HC Deb 22 March 1950 vol 472 cc1946-7
29. Professor Savory

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he has considered the protest sent to him by nine fishermen of Heligoland against the bombardment of their cemetery; and whether he will give instructions that the bombing of this cemetery shall cease.

Mr. Crawley

My right hon. Friend has just received this petition. He is looking into the question of whether it is possible to exclude the cemetery from the bombing area.

Professor Savory

Is there any precedent for a Christian nation bombing a cemetery, the most sacred spot in that island, in a time of profound peace—1949?
