HC Deb 16 March 1950 vol 472 c1231
14. Mr. Black

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how the number of children and young persons found guilty of offences in 1949 compares with the number in 1948 and 1947.

Mr. Ede

Provisional figures for the year 1949 for England and Wales show that 24,872 boys and girls under the age of 14, and 15,064 aged 14 to 17, were found guilty of indictable offences and dealt with in magistrates' courts. The corresponding figures for 1948 were 26,715 and 16,991, and for 1947, 21,152 and 13,861. The decreases in 1949 as compared with 1948 were 1,843 and 1,927, or 7 per cent. and 11 per cent.
