HC Deb 16 March 1950 vol 472 c1251
61. Mr. W. Robson-Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what specific offer of assistance has been received from the United States of America in regard to the sterling balances; and if he will give an assurance that when these payments are again discussed, emphasis will be made to those concerned that the British people are making these payments in most cases to countries whom we protected from the invader.

The Minister of State for Economic Affairs (Mr. Gaitskell)

No such offer has been received. For the rest, I cannot usefully add to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the Debate on the Address on 6th March.
