§ 31. Mr. John Hayasked the Minister of Health whether he will reconsider his decision not to make a grant under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Act, 1944, towards the cost of a scheme of sewage disposal for the parish of Goringon-Thames, concerning which the rural district council of Henley wrote to his Department on 1st February last.
§ Mr. BevanIt is not clear that the statutory conditions governing the payment of grant are satisfied in this instance, but I am awaiting further representations from the local authority.
§ Mr. HayWill the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that the housing programme in this parish is being seriously held up by this delay? Will he do all he can to speed up the matter?
§ Mr. BevanI am not delaying it. I am responsible to the House for seeing that the payments which are made have statutory backing.
