HC Deb 16 March 1950 vol 472 cc1225-6
3. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action is being taken on Part II of the Oaksey Committee's report on police conditions of service.

Mr. Ede

I discussed the second part of the Oaksey Committee's Report with the Police Council in January last, but some of the interests represented on the Council needed more time to consider the important issues raised by the Committee's recommendations. Further consultations are proceeding.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Will the Home Secretary give an assurance that as soon as the Police Council and other interested bodies have concluded their consultations on this matter, he will lose no time in submitting his proposals?

Mr. Ede

I am hoping that consideration by the Police Council will not be unduly prolonged.
