HC Deb 16 March 1950 vol 472 c1241
38. Mr. Black

asked the Minister of Health why the Isolation Hospital and Nurses Home in Gap Road, Wimbledon, have been substantially empty for about four months past, notwithstanding the great demand in the neighbourhood for accommodation of all kinds; and whether, if the property is no longer needed for hospital purposes, he will agree to make it available either as a home for the aged sick or for local authority housing purposes.

Mr. Bevan

This hospital was closed because it is no longer needed for fever cases. It is to be reopened for chronic sick cases when necessary adaptations can be carried out.

Mr. Black

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is an acute shortage of accommodation in Wimbledon, and that the fact that these eligible premises remain virtually empty is a cause of a great deal of unrest?

Mr. Bevan

I am fully aware of that—and hon. Members should be fully aware of the speeches they made on Tuesday.
