HC Deb 13 March 1950 vol 472 cc730-1
20. Sir Ian Fraser

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he can now make any statement about the level of the standard petrol ration during the summer months.

Mr. Noel-Baker

I regret that I have not yet had time to give this important matter the consideration which it requires, and I am, therefore, unable to make a statement today.

Sir I. Fraser

In view of that most encouraging reply, will the right hon. Gentleman assure us that when he has time to look into this he will make a gratifying announcement which will contain especially some help for rural districts and seaside resorts?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I shall certainly do my best.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when he will be able to make a statement? Is he aware that delay in announcing a decision of itself causes a good deal of unnecessary hardship?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I want to announce it as soon as I can, and I hope it may be very soon.
