HC Deb 13 March 1950 vol 472 cc728-9
17. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether the Government will now hold a public inquiry as to the available supplies of petrol for motorists in this country.

Mr. Noel-Baker

I am afraid that no useful purpose would be served by the inquiry which the hon. Member suggests.

Mr. De la Bère

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware that if he has nothing to hide there is nothing to fear? Surely the public are entitled to know what is the real position. All this petrol restriction is tommy-rot. The position is thoroughly unsatisfactory.
