HC Deb 13 March 1950 vol 472 c725
8. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Works whether he will take advantage of the opportunity presented by the new Government building in Whitehall Gardens to install a central plant for heating all Government offices in Whitehall smokelessly.

Mr. Stokes

Yes, Sir, this is being done. The boiler house and equipment have been designed to heat all the Government buildings in Whitehall, which will be linked to the system by stages. The fuel used will be creosote pitch, which is home produced, and which for practical purposes will be smokeless.

Mr. Keeling

Good.

Sir H. Williams

Will the boiler prevent proper garage accommodation being provided underneath?

Mr. Stokes

Not so far as I know.
