§ 57. Mr. Spearmanasked the Minister of Agriculture if, in view of the smaller catches of fish by vessels of under 15 tons in the first quarter of 1950 as compared with the first quarter of 1946, he will take steps to see the Overfishing Convention is ratified.
§ Mr. G. BrownThe Overfishing Convention was ratified by His Majesty's Government in July, 1946. Repeated invitations to ratify the Convention have been sent to the Governments of Belgium, Iceland and Portugal, and every effort is being made to secure ratification by them.
§ Mr. SpearmanWill the hon. Gentleman consider once more whether there is anything he can do to help the industry, which is in such a difficult position today?
§ Mr. BrownThat seems to be a wider question. We are doing all we can to secure the ratification of the Convention.
