asked the Minister of Food why the Food Rationing Meat Order, Statutory Instrument No. 785, was amended on the day on which it was laid before Parliament.

I think the hon. Member is mistaken. This was not amended on the day it was laid before Parliament.

Did it not vary the meat ration on the day it was made?

This was the ordinary annual Order we had to make to re-impose meat rationing. The Order amending the ration was made a fortnight later.
