asked the Minister of Food how much chocolate has been imported this year from Czechoslovakia.

Nearly 1,400 tons up to 30th April, which is the latest date for which figures are available.

Why is it possible to import chocolate from Czechoslovakia instead of allowing more to be produced in this country?

Mr. Webb

For the very simple reason that we have to sell manufactured goods to Czechoslovakia. If they and we are to have a balance of payments we have to buy things from each other.
