HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 cc434-5
18. Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation when he expects airborne very high frequency radio equipment to be available which is capable of operating at will on any of sixty or more frequencies.

Mr. Beswick

Production of this type of equipment is expected to start at the end of December.

32. Mr. Crouch

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what is the purpose in continually changing the frequencies on which very high frequency sets operate at M.C.A. aerodromes.

Mr. Beswick

These frequencies have not been and will not be continually changed; but, as a result of internationl agreement, we have recently secured 19 V.H.F. channels to supersede our original four. This will relieve congestion and increase safety. When reorganisation is complete there should be no appreciable change for at least three years.

Mr. Grimston

When the Minister said that they have not been changed, is he aware that a frequency was changed only a month ago?

Mr. Beswick

I did not say there have been no changes. I said that we have not been continually changing them.
