§ 44. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps he proposes to take to settle the dispute concerning the leadership of the Maroons of Accompong; and who it at present recognised officially as their colonel.
§ Mr. J. GriffithsAccording to my latest information, the question of arranging for an election still presented difficulties, but a further attempt to arrange one was to be made shortly. I will ask the Governor 2259 about present leadership and if any progress has been made, and will write to my hon. Friend when I have the reply.
§ Mr. DribergWhile thanking my right hon. Friend for that necessarily rather inconclusive answer, may I ask if he can say whether it is possible for the Governor to take the initiative in settling this unfortunate dispute among these remarkable people? Has he visited Accompong personally?
§ Mr. GriffithsI am in communication with the Governor on those questions.
