HC Deb 10 July 1950 vol 477 cc952-3
47. Mr. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a further statement in regard to the negotiations in progress between His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires in Peking and the Chinese Communist authorities.

Mr. Ernest Davies

The position remains as stated in the reply given to the hon. Member on 21st June.

Mr. Maclean

Can the Minister give the House an assurance that in future he and his right hon. Friend will cease from their rather undignified attempts to secure the admission of representatives of Communist China to the Security Council?

Mr. Davies

That is another question, but we do not accept the assumption which the hon. Gentleman has made.

Mr. Maclean

Is the Minister really prepared to deny that instructions were sent to Sir Terence Shone early this year to secure the support of Egypt, Cuba and Ecuador to the Soviet demand for the exclusion of the present Chinese representative?

Mr. Davies

That is an entirely different question from the one on the Order Paper.
