HC Deb 05 July 1950 vol 477 c470
38. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the expansion of the Standing Consultative Committee for French and British Togoland; and whether he will consider a similar step in the Cameroons.

Mr. J. Griffiths

Proposals for the expansion of the Standing Consultative Commission have been made by His Majesty's Government and the French Government jointly after study of the report of the visiting mission of the Trusteeship Council on the Ewe problem. These proposals are to be considered at the current session of the Trusteeship Council. Copies of the visiting mission's report and of the observations of the two administering Authorities, in which these proposals are explained, are available in the Library of the House. There is no Standing Consultative Commission for the Cameroons under British and French trusteeship respectively, for the reason given by me in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Leyton (Mr. Sorensen) on 29th March.
