HC Deb 14 December 1950 vol 482 cc1343-4
42. Mr. Driberg

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that seven families, including eight children, resident at Friars Cottages, London Road, Black Notley, near Braintree, Essex, can get only a few pails of water daily for all purposes, since the water from a pump which used to supply them is now unfit to drink; and what steps are being taken to connect these cottages with the main water supply a few hundred yards away.

Mr. Blenkinsop

Yes, Sir. These cottages form part of the hamlet of Youngs End, which lies partly in the Braintree Rural District and partly in the Chelmsford rural district. The Braintree Rural District Council have prepared a scheme for extending to Youngs End a water main, which is at present being laid in the neighbourhood, and are discussing with the Chelmsford Rural District Council the question of sharing the initial cost.

Mr. Driberg

Could my hon. Friend say how long it is likely to be before the water supply is actually there?

Mr. Blenkinsop

I cannot give any definite date, but I sincerely hope it will not be very long.
