§ 32. Sir George Jeffreysasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state the policy of his Department as regards the provision of shelters against air attack; and as to the maintenance, improvement or otherwise of shelters provided during the last war.
§ Mr. de FreitasMy right hon. Friend made a full statement about this matter on 9th November in answer to a Question by the hon. and gallant Member for Worthing (Brigadier Prior-Palmer). The Home Office of the Scottish Home Department have now sent circulars to the local authorities concerned. I will let the hon. and gallant Member have a copy of the Home Office circular.
§ Sir G. JeffreysIs the hon. Gentleman aware that in some cases—in fact, fairly numerous cases—some of the shelters of the last war are still being removed or filled in, as the case may be? Ought not this to stop?
§ Mr. de FreitasI am very surprised to hear that, in view of the very clear statement of policy which has been made by my right hon. Friend that shelters of the last war should not be done away with. If the hon. and gallant Gentleman will let me have particulars of cases where this has occurred, I will certainly look into them.
