HC Deb 12 December 1950 vol 482 c971
31. Colonel Ropner

asked the Secretary of State for War how many Class A and B Reservists engaged in agriculture have been called up since 1st May, 1950.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Strachey)

Records are not kept of the civilian occupations of Regular Reservists. I cannot, therefore, say how many of the Regular Reservists who were recalled were engaged in agriculture.

Colonel Ropner

May I ask the Minister whether there is any consultation between his Department and the Ministry of Agriculture, either on the general question of calling up agricultural workers or in specific instances of key men?

Mr. Strachey

On the question of any general call up, there would, of course, be close consultation, but regarding the calling up of the Regular Army Reserve, which is a small body, this is done by the War Office.
