HC Deb 12 December 1950 vol 482 cc977-8
43. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for War if, in his consideration of the question of releasing ex-miners from the Forces, he will give further consideration to the case of Private William Dalzell, whose father was lost in the Knockshinnoch disaster and particulars of whose case have been forwarded to him by the hon. Member for South Ayrshire.

Mr. Strachey

Consideration will be given to this case when a decision has been reached as to the possibility of allowing miners who have recently volunteered for the Forces to return to the pits.

44. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for War whether a decision has yet been reached as to the possibility of allowing miners who have volunteered for the Army to return to the pits.

Mr. Strachey

Not yet, Sir.

Mr. Hynd

Is it not illogical to refuse to release miners when we are hesitating to call them up?

Mr. Strachey

As my answer suggests, no decision has been reached on this matter.
