HC Deb 06 December 1950 vol 482 c346
63 and 64. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1) whether he will make a statement on the progress of the Bamenda-Cross River Calabar Settlement Scheme in Eastern Nigeria, particularly on the number of families settled; the numbers who have been able to make their holdings pay; and the numbers who are unable to meet their financial obligations;

(2) to what extent the area occupied by the Bamenda-Cross River Calabar Settlement Scheme in Eastern Nigeria has been transferred for plantation production; what acreage is to remain for settlement; what part the settled families are to play in the plantation scheme; and whether he is satisfied that a policy of small scale settlement is desirable in this area.

Mr. J. Griffiths

I have asked the Acting Governor for a progress report on this scheme and will write to my hon. Friend when it is received.
