HC Deb 06 December 1950 vol 482 cc349-50
25. Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many police lieutenants have been approved for the Malayan establishment; and how many have arrived in Malaya.

Mr. J. Griffiths

The authorised establishment is 680 and 495 are now in Malaya.

Air Commodore Harvey

In the light of the present difficulties of South-East Asia generally, does the right hon. Gentleman think that the figure is high enough, and will he say when the remainder of those to go are expected to arrive?

Mr. Griffiths

The question of whether the total figure is sufficient has been considered in recent talks I have had. We are doing everything we possibly can to fill all the vacancies as quickly as possible.
