HC Deb 06 December 1950 vol 482 cc339-40
24. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many committees have now been set up to study the requirements and circumstances of the indigenous inhabitants, as proposed in the Overseas Resources Development Act, 1948.

Mr. J. Griffiths

The Corporation have not so far found that the appointment of any such committee is needed.

Mr. Sorensen

Is it not laid down in the Act that these committees should be set up, and has not a long time elapsed since that Act was passed? In these circumstances, is nothing to be done to see that these committees are set up?

Mr. Griffiths

I did not say that nothing was to be done, but that the Corporation find that, so far, the committees are not needed. No doubt they will watch the position and set them up if they find that they are needed.

Mr. Sorensen

Is this proposal now found to be ineffective and useless?

Mr. Griffiths

No, Sir. It has not been found to be necessary so far.
