§ 28. Mr. Emrys Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the costs of police operations in Malaya during 1948 and 1949; and what was the expenditure in these years on the Malayan C.I.D.
§ Mr. J. GriffithsThe total expenditure on police in the Federation of Malaya for 1948 and 1949 was approximately £4.9 million and £9.4 million respectively. This includes expenditure on buildings and such items as wireless equipment and also on the C.I.D., for which no separate accounts are kept.
§ Mr. W. FletcherIs the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that the expenditure on C.I.D., which may, in the end, save a great many lives by getting good intelligence, is really adequate, and that 938 money and proper personnel are not being spared on this important subject?
§ Mr. GriffithsI realise the importance of this work. We are anxious that it should not be impeded in any way by financial considerations.
