asked the Minister of Labour the total number of unemployed persons in Portsmouth at the last convenient date in March, 1950, and in March, 1948.

Four thousand, one hundred and thirty-six at 13th March, 1950; 2,393 at 15th March, 1948.

In view of the great increase of unemployment in Portsmouth, will the Minister look into it to see what can be done to help?

Mr. Isaacs

Yes, Sir, I can assure the hon. Gentleman that, in conjunction with the President of the Board of Trade, very great attention is being given to the area,. and some industries have already been, induced to establish themselves there
