19. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what reply he proposes to make to the request of Ayr County Council for an additional allocation for houses for fishermen.

Mr. McNeil

I am prepared to consider the special circumstances of particular fishing areas where it can be shown that the lack of houses is hampering necessary recruitment from other areas and I am ascertaining from the county council what specific proposals they desire to submit.

Sir T. Moore

In view of the very great shortage of houses for fishermen in Ayrshire, may we assume that there is no discrimination against fishermen, as such, compared with other sections of the community?

Mr. McNeil

Certainly there is not.
