44. Mr. George Thomas

asked the Minister of Works if he will give the number of building workmen employed on the construction of the new Prudential Assurance Society building in Cardiff; the number employed on building council houses; and the number engaged in odd repair and alteration work in Cardiff.

The number of building workmen employed on the construction of the Prudential building on 18th April was 23. The building is required in part for accommodation fo, Government offices. Art the last date for which statistics are available th^re were 1,183 engaged on building council houses and 2,185 engaged on repair and maintenance work, including house repairs.

Will the right hon. Gentleman make it clear to the House that nine-tenths of this Prudential building were allocated to Government offices?
