HC Deb 05 April 1950 vol 473 c1192
51. Dr. King

asked the Minister of Defence whether he will arrange that Regular Service men on discharge receive the whole of their demobilisation leave, pay at once.

The Minister of Defence (Mr. Shinwell)

No, Sir. It is not always possible for a man's account to be closed by the day he leaves the Service, especially if he has come from overseas for discharge.

Dr. King

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the case which prompted this Question is of a demobilised Regular Member of the Royal Air Force, who was given two weeks' demobilisation pay and had to wait more than a month for the rest of that month's pay? Does he not think that that is an injustice to one of our Regular men?

Mr. Shinwell

I think those details ought to be sent to my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Air.
