HC Deb 04 April 1950 vol 473 c1006
54. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what objection he has made to the request of the Czech miners for permission to make a contribution to funds for maintaining dependants of relations killed in a British mining disaster.

Sir S. Cripps

The matter of the transmission of funds from Czechoslovakia to this country is one for the Czechoslovak exchange control authorities. No request has been made to me and I have of course no objection to any such transfer.

Mr. Hamilton

Is my right hon. and learned Friend aware that the Communists in this country are making great play of this, and presenting to the miners, particularly in Scotland, a distorted view of the whole position?

Sir S. Cripps

I am not at all surprised that they should present a distorted view of anything.
