HC Deb 03 April 1950 vol 473 c868
The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Ernest Davies)

I should like to make a personal statement on behalf of my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary. During the Foreign Affairs Debate on 28th March, he stated: The other point which the right hon. Gentleman raised was with regard to Haifa. This matter was not quite so simple as the right hon. Gentleman suggested. This place was allocated to the Arabs under the United Nations resolution. Israel did not accept that point. She proceeded to take it, and Iraq then cut off the oil."—[OFFICIAL REPORT, 28th March, 1950: Vol. 473, c. 326.] My right hon. Friend regrets the obvious error. The relevant section of the statement should have read: This place was allocated to the Jews under the United Nations resolution. The Arabs did not accept this. The Jews proceeded to take it over, and Iraq then cut off the oil. My right hon. Friend was, of course, well aware of these facts.
