HC Deb 26 October 1949 vol 468 c1328
55. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Minister of Defence how many free railway warrants are issued to National Service men per year.

Mr. Alexander

National Service men called up before 1st January, 1949, are entitled to a maximum of three free warrants a year; those called up on or after that date are entitled to a maximum of three during their 18-month period of whole-time service.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider issuing a Fleet order, an Army Council instruction and an Air Council instruction to clarify this matter? There are some units which are not quite certain how many warrants the men are entitled to.

Mr. Alexander

I made inquiries, and I understand that the position has been made clear in the Army and the Royal Air Force, but that the preparation of Fleet orders has not been as rapid. They are, however, about to be issued.
