HC Deb 30 November 1949 vol 470 cc1130-1
26. Mr. Erroll

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the programme for road construction in Kenya for the next 10 years.

Mr. Creech Jones

The Kenya Government is considering recommendations by a special road committee that there should be a £9 million road programme during 1951–1962 and a road authority to lay down policy and priorities. Meanwhile, a considerable road programme is already in hand and this will continue during 1950.

Mr. Erroll

Is there any danger of this programme being slowed down as a result of the personal views of the Governor of the Colony?

Mr. Creech Jones

No, Sir; the programme is under constant view, but there is no intention to slow it down.
