HC Deb 28 November 1949 vol 470 c772
48. Mr. Dumpleton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many British subjects have entered claims for war losses in respect of property situated in the Russian zone of Germany; and what is the position as regards the settlement of such claims.

Mr. Mayhew

In the absence of any international arrangements for compensation for war damage in respect of property in Germany, no such claims are accepted at present. I regret that, until there is a peace treaty or an international agreement, covering claims of this kind, my right hon. Friend can offer no hope of their settlement.
