HC Deb 28 November 1949 vol 470 cc781-2
65. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to ensure that electrical machines and switchgear imported from America for British oil refinery expansion conform, where necessary, to the Buxton tests and regulations.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

The electrical machines and switchgear in question will, when installed, be subject to the requirements of the Factories Acts and of the special regulations made under those Acts. The factory inspectorate have already been in touch with the firm concerned with a view to ensuring that there will be compliance with the requirements.

Mr. Erroll

Will these requirements be the same as if it had been British machinery that was being installed?

Mr. Isaacs

The requirements will be imposed irrespective of where the machinery comes from.
