HC Deb 28 November 1949 vol 470 c751
1. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Minister of Food what is the average calorie value of the diet of the civilian population of the United Kingdom at the latest convenient date, with separate figures in respect of rationed and un-rationed foods.

The Minister of Food (Mr. Strachey)

The figure for the 12 months to June, 1949, was 2,980 calories per head per day. It would be exceedingly difficult and expensive to work out the split between rationed and unrationed foods.
