HC Deb 28 November 1949 vol 470 cc764-5
33. Dr. Santo Jeger

asked the Minister of Works whether, in view of the need for economy in building, he will review the licences granted to the Dominion Students Hall Trust to build an extension to London House containing a swimming pool, a rifle range and squash courts at a cost of £1,100,000.

The Minister of Works (Mr. Key)

No, Sir. The work is already in progress and I am not prepared to withdraw the licence.

Dr. Jeger

Is the Minister not aware that this scheme involves the destruction of a good deal of expensive repaired housing accommodation; and will he therefore decline to issue further similar licences until the housing shortage has been considerably relieved?

Mr. Key

There is no question of issuing further licences. It is a question of whether this one shall continue.
