25. Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of people attacked with violence or murdered during the first nine months of 1947, 1948 and 1949, respectively.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Ede)

Figures are available only for the first seven months of this year. During that period, 3,312 persons were the victims of offences of murder, attempted murder, wounding, robbery with violence, assault with intent to rob, and extortion with threats. During the first seven months of 1947 and 1948 the figures were 2,694 and 3,375 respectively.

Mr. Henry Strauss

Has the right hon. Gentleman comparable figures for the periods of Tory and Liberal rule?
